Following the explosive growth of Bitcoin, it is not surprising that hackers are increasingly attacking cryptocurrency exchange platforms. They have recently hacked the NiceHash exchange service and stolen Bitcoins worth more than $60 million.

The Bitcoin cryptocurrency breaks another value record while its exchange rate soars over $18,000 per unit according to Сoinmarketcap.com publication.

The virtual currency’s total capitalization exceeded $300 billion. According to analysts, within a single day, December 7, Bitcoin overcame the $14,000, $15,000, $16,000 and $17,000 marks at one stroke. On December 8, at 9:30 Moscow time, the Bitcoin price dropped to $16,141.

The cryptocurrency exchange rate grows against trading expectations on the US exchanges next week: the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) starts trading Bitcoin futures on December 10.

Cryptocurrency theft

According to TechCrunch, abusers hacked the NiceHash cryptocurrency exchange platform and stole Bitcoins worth more than $60 million (estimated on December 7). Due to this attack, the platform suspended its operation for 24 hours to find out exactly how much cryptocurrency the hackers had managed to steal, investigating how the intruders could have done it in the first place. The NiceHash exchange platform recommended its users to change passwords, not only for this website but for all other services they use.

NiceHash is a cryptocurrency mining online market, which brings together sellers (miners) and buyers of mining capacities. The service has been operating since 2014 and is registered in Ljubljana.

The media outlet reminds it is not the first cryptocurrency theft incident. In November, Ethereum had to freeze virtual assets being an equivalent to $150 million. It happened due to the Parity Ethereum wallet vulnerability. At the same time, abusers stole $30 million worth Ethereum currency due to these issues with the same Parity wallet this July.
